How is a contemporary music festival created? Two webinars in July will offer the public insights into the artistic process of program development
Lucerne Festival Forward, which Lucerne Festival will launch in November, is a new festival featuring an innovative approach that completely redefines both the program and its artistic planning.
Forward audiences will encounter contemporary music from solo to ensemble works and in unusual spatial constellations that similarly break away from conventional forms of presentation. How does such a program get created? Details of the concert programming will be determined and announced at the end of July, but in the meantime the creative team invites the public to take a sneak peek through two digital discussions about this unusual and innovative development process. “These open webinars aim to show a different, new way of sharing and getting to know contemporary music and are also intended to openly discuss the program’s creative development process with people who are interested,” explains Felix Heri, Director of the Contemporary category.
Artistic planning for Forward starts with the idea of using the Lucerne Festival Academy’s international network, which to date comprises more than 1,200 artists, as a collective and curatorial mastermind. In a collaborative process with Felix Heri and Festival dramaturge Mark Sattler, 15 “Contemporary Leaders” from this network will develop specific details of the threeday series of concert programs to take place in the KKL Luzern. During the digital planning rounds, projects and programs that former Academy members have submitted in recent months as part of a major call for projects will be discussed. Those who are interested can see this process in action as well as the creative discussion in two webinars of about 45 minutes each (in English).
